This work called “SAS Passenger” by Andy Warhol is an excellent
visual representation of a SAS (Scandinavian Airlines) passenger
ticket done in bright yellow with black graphics covering it. The
piece was based on Andy Warhol’s round-trip SAS airline ticket
and baggage check to Stockholm dated 7 December 1967. The
piece is characterised by vibrant colours over black shamrocks
and swords in the background. Above the symbols, the text of
the ticket is written and outlined in a light blue that contrasts with
the yellow of the background to the point that the ticket is almost
difficult to read. The abridged and enlarged Scandinavian Airlines
ticket theme was published for a Warhol exhibition at the Moderna
Museet in Stockholm, Sweden, and is one of Warhol’s earliest
published prints.
