DESCRIPCIÓN:
Christopher Makos rose to prominence in the mid-1970s for documenting the
downtown New York art scene, most significantly Andy Warhol. Makos was a close friend of the
famous artist and was able to capture candid pictures of his daily life. His pictures of Warhol in
drag, the Altered Image Series, came out of two June 1981 studio portrait sessions. In these
works, Makos and Warhol were self-consciously referencing Man Ray’s famous 1921 image of
Marcel Duchamp in the guise of his female alter ego, Rrose Sélavy. (Makos briefly apprenticed
with Man Ray early in his career.)
