This poster was made for the 1949 International Jazz Festival,
whose author is anonymous. The festival was attended by Harlie
Parker, Miles Davis, Django Reinhardt, Sidney Bechet and many
other jazz greats. Jazz festivals were a novelty in the late 1940s. In
May 1949, the Paris International Jazz Festival became one of the
first of any size, and certainly one of the first to present famous
acts in a strictly jazz idiom
