DESCRIPCIÓN:
In addition to being a poster, this work depicting seventy repeated images of trading
stamps popular in the United States from the 1930s through the 1980s served two functions.
First, it was an invitation in the form of a foldout poster announcing the opening of the first War-
hol retrospective (October 8 – November 21, 1965) at the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) in
Philadelphia. Additionally, the poster served as wallpaper to adorn the walls of the ICA exhibition.
The red S&H logo refers to the inventors of the green stamps, Thomas A. Sperry and Shelly B.
Hutchison, both from Jackson, Michigan. Their company, founded in 1896, enjoyed great su-
ccess from the 1950s until it was sold in 1981.
