When Warhol created these first posters for Absolut Vodka, he contributed to the
launch of an advertising campaign that made history.
The company commissioned established artists to create original artworks rather than using tra-
ditional graphic design for its advertising campaign. In doing so, Absolut’s marketing promoted
culture while protecting art’s intrinsic value, giving each artist carte blanche in his or her depic
tion of the bottle.

Warhol delivered a painting of the vodka bottle measuring four and a half feet tall and nearly
four feet wide, slightly larger than the posters.
