DESCRIPCIÓN:
This is one of the last artworks
Keith Haring created before he died of AIDS in
1990. It was auctioned a year later at the ‘Me
tropolitan Home’ second annual showhouse,
which took place from March 7th to March 31st,
1991. All proceeds raised with the auction were
destined to help others suffering of the same
disease. The magazine’s first showhouse rai-
sed $800,000 for DIFFA, the Design Industries
Foundation for AIDS.
Works came from a big range of creative
minds such as architects Alan Wanzenberg
and Jed Johnson; fashion designer, Goe-
ffrey Beene; novel writer, Tom Wolfe, and
artist Kenny Scharf, who gained notoriety
alongside Keith Haring when they started
spray-painting New York subway cars with
their cartoonlike figures in the first years of
the 1980s.
“The whole project came out when I was de
corating his house in December 1989,” says
art dealer Sam Havadtoy, the companion
of Yoko Ono and the donor of the works. “I
collaborated with him. It was the last thing
he worked on.”
