In his biography Haring explains
that he produced the South Africa poster at
about the same time as the poster for the
Rain Dance benefit. It “had first been a pain-
ting, but the image was strong enough to
make a good poster”. 20. 000 of the posters
were given away for free; the print was later
sold in the Pop Shop for the symbolic price
of one dollar.
