The casino in the coastal town of
Knokke in Belgium, where dolphins can occa-
sionally be sighted, has been hosting art ex-
hibitions since the 1920s. Haring struck up a
friendship with Roger Nellens, one of its ow-
ners, and his family, whose garden included
a habitable dragon sculpture by Niki de Saint
Phalle. Haring lived in it during his stays in
Knokke, where he created a large mural and
opened his exhibition.
