The 24 Hours of Le Mans, which
always take place in June, is one of the most
popular auto races in the world. Haring had
received an inquiry from the tourism asso-
ciation of the Département de la Loire
asking him if he would participate in a 24-
hour painting activity with the French painter
François Boisrond – with the aim of painting
a children’s car as well as designing posters,
T-shirts, and the like. It was the artist’s first
public appearance in France.
